Understanding the Difference between Email Promotions and Email Newsletters

Email promotions and email newsletters are a form of email marketing that can be used by a marketer to achieve certain milestones in marketing. Email promotions be described as emails sent to a specific audience with a message informing them on what is new in the market and they should buy them. Basically, they are aimed promoting specific products and ensuring that there is an increase in sales. Email newsletters on the other hand are aimed at not only boasting sales of products, but also creating a long term relationship with a customer by informing them what is going on in the company and such information that is not directly related to the product.

As much they are both forms of marketing, they are different in that they are used to achieve certain goals in the field of marketing. To start with, promotional emails are aimed at realizing an immediate action from the receiver. The messages are usually designed in a very persuasive way that will make the receiver think that his or her life is incomplete without the product or service being promoted.

These emails are usually short and straight to the point so that the audience is not turned off. They can contain short catchy phrases or just a single word that will grab the attention of the audience. If the target audience does not react within a short time by buying the product or considering to buy it in the near future, it is possible that the email has lost its meaning. This can be describe as short term and most direct way of marketing. The aim is not only sale the product, but prompt the buyer to sign up for more.

Promotions are for making an offer to users who will be enticed to purchase more products. They are also aimed at helping the marketer register immediate returns. This is mainly the reason why you see products on offer priced lowly compared to when they are not. Meaning when they are on offer, they will sell quickly as people rush to get theirs before stock is finished. This is what email promotions are aimed at.

On the other hand, email newsletters are basically aimed at establishing a long term contact and influence with the target audience. They may tell the audience to act on a certain message immediately but the main reason of using them is for facilitating long term relationship between the company and the audience.

They are usually long and detailed containing information that the target markets wants to know and more. Email newsletters are usually sent to receivers after a certain period of time, like monthly. They are aimed at giving value to the customer. Contrary to promotions, which usually give just offers, newsletters go further by offering value. That is, the customers will feel the need to be part of something important in that company, hence making them loyal to that company for a long time.

As much as the two are aimed at marketing, the main difference lies in how they achieve that. The basic thing is that email newsletters are aimed at retention of information while email promotions are aimed at quick action.
