The good thing about this method is that your time is saved as all the work is done for you. The disadvantage is that you never get to see the list and you can never be too sure if it reached potential consumers.

There is also the option of buying bulk email list. This is buying from someone who already has collection of emails. It is also a good method of getting contacts since you do not have to look for your own list. The thing about this method is that such lists always tire recipients. If recipients keep getting emails from people or companies that they do not know, it decreases their rate of response. They might not respond to your emails, and therefore, you cannot achieve much. The other disadvantage is that those who you are buying from may want to take control of how you use the lists. This will depend on the relationship of the seller and his clients. If they are already established clients who he normally sends emails to, he might want to control how you handle them in your emails.

The other disadvantage of buying email lists is that the addresses may be from old lists that may not be relevant. Those who sell lists sometimes get them from old directories and websites. The addresses you get may no longer be in use since people keep changing addresses. It may also consist of lists for dead or abandoned accounts. Sending emails to such accounts may result to you being blacklisted by the receiving systems. Your emails may be barred from being delivered from then on. It takes time to get a relevant and up to date list, not many sellers are willing to go through that process again.

Buying bulk email addressees may reach many people but only a few may find the information relevant. Some people will not pay attention to messages they receive that they did not permit. Sending messages to people, who view you as a stranger, may result in them reporting you as a spammer. If you are reported, it will not be good for your business.

Legislation allows you to send emails to people you do not know as long as you meet the desired requirements. If you are reported as a spammer, a court may order that you be blocked.
