Anti Spam Laws
Do you wish that you would get your inbox clean as it were before? Get rid of all that junk mail? Fighting and getting rid of spam is never easy, but with the anti spam laws, hopefully, you might be waving off this menace.
The more sophisticated and accessible technology becomes, the more methods come up to corrupt them. Spams, virus, spy ware…have become the nightmare to most internet users, with most of us having fallen victims of this form of annoying insecurity.
There is only one way of getting yourself immune against these vices and protecting your personal information: As a start, you have to be informed of the laid down laws of this menace.
The CAN-SPAM act consists of laws and rules to govern the commercial emails and gives recipients the right to make these companies stop sending you emails. Tough penalties are administered if these laws are violated. The laws requirements are:
Deceptive subject lines should never be used. The subject of an email should however reflect the precise message of the content message it carries, without having been exaggerated.
The recipients should be well aware of where the business premise is located. The email being sent should therefore contain all the addresses, including the physical postal address-post office box number, street address, and the private mail as registered with the postal service.
Misleading or false information is highly prohibited. The email address as well as the domain name should be real and accurate, and should be able to give the identification of the sender.
The message being sent through should clearly state that it is an advertisement, such that the recipient knows of the sender’s full intention(s).
The company should take responsibility of its emails. Even if they contact another company to take care of their marketing, they have to monitor the work, and ensure that what they are doing complies with the law. If at all they are to be prosecuted, both companies-the one promoting its products and the one assisting with the marketing have to come under severe scrutiny.
The email should inform the recipients of what to do in order to opt for an end to such messages in the near future. It should be stated simply and clearly, such that even an ordinary person is able to read, recognize and understand. The font type used, the color and the size can be creatively used to help improve on the clarity of this section of the message. A return address should also be provided to enable the receiver get in touch and send feedback.
The anti spam law enforcers have a big role to play:
Research on new technologies that are being used to send spam; liaise with overseas bodies to come up with international agreements meant to wipe out spam; investigate on spam complains, advise large organizations and governments on the best ways to deal with spam and; look out for spammers.
For personal or business complains regarding spam, there is an anti spam compliance unit that investigates the complaints and act upon them.
